Research in Criminology is multidisciplinary and has a clear empirical and theoretical orientation. It includes studies of different types of deviant behaviour, including crime, connections to mental health problems and substance abuse, all of which tend to overlap.

Core research areas at the department are:

  • Criminal careers
  • The geography of crime
  • Youth crime
  • Criminological theory
  • Crime prevention
  • Violence against women
  • Treatment and care of substance abusers

International collaboration within research

The Department of Criminology at Malmö University is engaged in several collaborations and partner projects both in Sweden and abroad. The brittish PADS+ study and dutch SPAN study are two examples that are closely connected to Malmö University and swedish research.
