Cariology

This programme is a full-time, two-year international master's programme in Cariology with clinical training. The programme is offered to dentists with a minimum of two years clinical experience after graduation who seek to improve their competence in research as well as their theoretical knowledge and clinical skills in cariology.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of the international master's programme in Cariology, including a research project and the defence of a thesis, graduates will be awarded a Master's Degree in Dental Science (MDSc). Clinically, students will be able to assess, diagnose and deliver causal and restorative treatment to patients with caries disease. They will develop theoretical knowledge and clinical competence to care for patients with moderately complex caries disease.

Faculty

Students treat selected patients under the close guidance of a diverse and experienced faculty comprised of top clinicians in the field of cariology.

Course components

After an introductory course in comprehensive dentistry involving all aspects of odontology, a variety of lectures, seminars, self-directed learning and clinical sessions, as well as independent thesis research work, are incorporated into the programme in Cariology. Areas of focus include an overview of the biological basis of cariology in theory and practice. Principles, issues and diverse subjects are explored and applied to research and clinical care. Students are exposed to complex and interesting cases, in a forum designed to enhance their ability to interact successfully with professionals.
