Culture, Languages and Media

Picture of students

The Department of Culture, Languages and Media focuses on how knowledge and meaning is created in linguistic contexts, how they are conveyed by various forms of media and how they give expression to social and cultural identity.

The subjects are:

  • Swedish
  • Art and Visual Learning
  • English and Learning

These subjects are treated as language subjects. The development of language cannot be separated from the understanding of content, or from learning with and from other people. In addition to the major subjects, we also offer courses in drama, music and movement. The department additionally runs externally commissioned courses with particular focus on Swedish as a second language, reading and writing in early childhood, and aesthetic communication.

Research in the department is multidiscplinary with an emphasis on Swedish and didactics, Nordic languages, literature, linguistics, culture and media.
