Students organise events to celebrate the University

To celebrate Malmö University in 2018, project funds were made available to students interested in hosting events this year. Of the students who applied, three groups were chosen, and plans are now underway to host the spring events.

Three events — organised by students for students — will be held at Malmö University this spring:

Re-brand, re-use, re-cycle event

A student group got creative with Malmö University's new name and logo design. The result is two events where students can revamp objects they already own with the Malmö University logo. The student group has developed the templates and colours for printing and will be on hand to help create something new from something old. Bring a sweater, a suitcase or something else to be embellished with the Malmö University logo.

“We want to encourage sustainable consumption instead of producing new clothes and things. We want to celebrate the University, highlight the new logo and engage students and co-workers through a sustainability event,” the project group states in its application.

The event will be held on March 2 on the ground floor of Niagara.

Comics anthology and comics workshops

Students taking the Visual Communication programme were awarded project funding for their comics anthology on the subject of ‘student life’. All comics enthusiasts are welcome to submit their work to the project group and are invited to two comics workshops to find inspiration for new comics. The project team will provide materials, exercises, tips and advice to all the participants. No previous experience is required to participate in the workshops.

"We are interested in comics and comics creation and saw this as an opportunity to gather the knowledge of University students who draw comics. The anthology allows us to publish our comics,” says Mattis Telin-Örnblom from the project team.

The next workshop will be held on the ground floor of Orkanen on Saturday, March 17.

Selected comics will be included in the anthology, which is due to be published in May. The exhibition for the anthology will be held on May 8.

Imagine Cities — a debate on cities of the future

In early May, students from the Urban Studies master's programme will arrange a debate and workshop on cities of the future. Along with researchers in the field, they want to explore how, in the future, cities can be developed using new technologies.

“We want to bring research, science and entertainment closer together”, explain the project team behind the event.
