2018-10-31

RESEARCH. The South Africa–Sweden University Forum are looking for researchers interested in taking part in the 2019 seminar week in South Africa in May.

The South Africa–Sweden University Forum, which Malmö University is part of, is looking for emerging researchers interested in taking part in the 2019 seminar week in Stellenbosch, South Africa, May 8-10. Satellite events will also be arranged in the Cape region, as well as other parts of South Africa.

The SASUF project strives to promote collaboration between South African and Swedish researchers tied to six challenges that are founded on UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Interested researchers are asked to submit an abstract describing their collaboration interest by Nov 15 to Uppsala University (who are coordinating the SASUF project): sasuf@uu.se

The project is directed towards researchers, university management, and funding agencies. Customised funding opportunities for further work on proposed collaborations are available from funding agencies in both countries, aside from the funding that each partner university and SASUF also provides. Malmö University expects to fund the travel and living costs of up to 10 researchers for attending the 2019 seminar week.

The six themes and challenges

  1. Climate change, natural resources and sustainability
  2. Education for a Sustainable Society
  3. Social transformation through change: Knowledge and social development strategies for society
  4. Understanding the burden of disease in Sweden and South Africa and its impact on the health systems of the two countries in the future
  5. Urbanisation and cities in the 21st Century
  6. Digital technologies, big data and cybersecurity
