Colony morphology of some of the 'mutans group' bacterial strains of the Culture collection, Dept of Cariology, Malmö University. It should be observed that the appearance will be different depending on the growth medium. Here colonies are on MSA agar plates.

RAPD Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA
Detecting genomic polymorphisms by using a short oligonucleotide primer of aribtrary sequence in a polymerase chain reaction. After amplification the banding pattern will be visualized on polyacrylamide gels.
