IMISCOE Workshop: Migrant Employment and Legal Status in Europe. IMISCOE Annual Conference in Liège.This workshop seeks to jointly assess three interrelated transformations marking the definition of migrant legality across European nation-States over the last decade: 1) the renewed focus on employment as a condition for foreign residents to obtain and maintain legal status; 2) the diversification and polarisation of work-related residence permits in terms of the rights they guarantee and the restrictions they impose; 3) the increasing temporariness and conditionality of residence titles overall, which tends to blur the distinction between legal and illegal migrants into a gradual halo of probationary and reversible citizenship.
