K3 attracts researchers from various disciplines and backgrounds. Current research projects focus on topics ranging from Swedish working-class literature to social media and activism; from storytelling in comics to choreography and information technology. Several of the projects are characterised by collaboration with stakeholders outside K3, such as local businesses, NGOs, arts institutions and other universities.
All the research and artistic development work is split into two intersectional themes: Design, and Culture and Media. Researchers have lab resources, design space, experimental rooms and exhibitions spaces at their disposal.
The department has a common PhD programme for the subjects interaction design and media and communication studies within the research area New Media, public spheres and forms of expression (NMOG).
Part of the research at K3 is conducted at the research centre Internet of Things and People (IoTaP) and MEDEA Research Lab for Collaborative Media, Design, and Public Engagement. Find more information in the right column.
