Information about bedbugs

It's only when bugs start to bother us people, then they are considered to be vermin. If you suspect that you have problems with vermin, you must immediately contact Anticimex.

NOTE! You seldom have to pay the cost for Anticimex yourself - it is deducted from your property owners insurance. You may, however, have to pay for furniture that needs to be replaced. Check what your home insurance covers!

The sooner the sanitation can be carried out in order to prevent the spreading of bed bugs, the better. To clean the place yourself will not help you to get rid of the bed bugs, an extermination company must be hired.

BEDBUGS

Bedbugs aren't real bugs - it is a beetle. Bedbugs were a major problem in Sweden a long time ago and have, in recent years, once again become a growing problem. Relatively speaking, bedbugs have not been a major problem in Malmö. The bedbug is hard to exterminate - they hide very effectively and can survive without food for a long time.

The bedbug doesn't spead disease but its bite can cause an allergic reaction for many people. Rash and swelling combined with a itch are common symptoms.

Bedbugs spread through humans, therefore you should always inspect used furniture carefully before putting them into your home.

If you suspect you have bedbugs at home, you should immediately contact your landlord on how to sanitise your apartment. They will either contact the extermination company directly or give you instructions on how to do this. Pack your clothes and textiles in sealed bags so they can be washed or frozen. Getting rid of bedbugs is a process and can take time, be sure to be on the lookout even after the exterminator has treated your apartment.

Keep in mind that if you have bedbugs, there is no reason to feel embarrassed or ashamed. Having bedbugs do not reflect on your cleanliness, it is something that can happen at student housing and hotels.
