Well-attended workshop
2010-12-09
Every year Biofilms - Research Center for Biointerfaces holds a workshop that addresses researchers as well as the industry and other main figures in the biomedical field. This year the topic was “Biomaterials - From Fundamentals to Market Application”.
Biofilms annual workshop this year attracted 110 guests from different universities as well as industries, innovation agencies, solicitor’s offices and risk capitalists. During the three day workshop a wide range of interesting lectures were held on the topic “From Fundamentals to Market Application”.
- We are very happy that we this year could combine the annual workshop with the workshop of an EU-project as it allowed us to offer lectures on research results as well as the commercialization of scientific innovations, says Johan Engblom, Leader of Biofilms - Research Center for Biointerfaces.
During the first two days senior researchers as well as PhD students lectured. Per-Olof Glantz, Odontology at Malmö University, gave the visitors an insight in the development of Biofilms. Tommy Nylander, Physical Chemistry at Lund University, lectured on the interaction of drug delivery vehicles with model bio membranes, and Jovice Boon Sing Ng, Health and society at Malmö University, talked about using mesoporous silica spheres as biomolecule support.
Focus of the last day was commercialization of academic innovations. Among the lecturers was Klementina Österberg, GU Holding, who talked about the successful commercialization of scientific innovations at Göteborg University. Jeanette Sundberg, PULS AB, lectured on what makes an innovation successful.
- It has been a very interesting workshop! I have got an up date on what is going on, and at the same time I have had the opportunity to meet many interesting people in the area, says Christy Whiddon, Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry.
