Academic year

The academic year in Sweden is divided into Autumn and Spring semester.

Autumn semester 2011: 29 August - 15 January 2012
Spring semester 2012: 16 January - 1 June

Autumn semester 2012: 3 September - 20 January 2013
Spring semester 2013: 21 January - 9 June

Application rounds

There are several application rounds for studies in Sweden. Check under “When to apply” to see which suits you.

Below is a list with the important dates and deadlines for the different application rounds. If you have made an application you can see in which round by looking at your application number, it starts with a reference to an application round, for example IKHT12/number.

Autumn Semester

International application round Autumn semester, starts September 2012 (IKHT12)

• 1 December 2011: Online service opens
• 16 January 2012: Application deadline
• 1 February 2012: Deadline for receipt of supporting academic documents (all applicants) and documentation of fee exempt status (if required)
• 1 February 2012: Deadline for receipt of application fee (if required)
• Last week of March: First Notification of Selection Results
• 10 April 2012: Last date to reply to your offer
• Last week of April: Second Notification of Selection Results

EU application round Autumn semester, starts September 2012 (34MAHEUH12)

We recommend this application round for students (with citizenship in an EU country) in their last year of upper secondary school. If you want to apply for master level education, please use the international application round. 

• 15 March: Online service opens
• 16 April: Application deadline
• 8 May Deadline for documentation of fee exempt status. If the document is late your application will be considered a late application,  
• 18 July: Deadline for receipt of supporting academic documents (all applicants) and documentation of fee exempt status (if required)
• Last week of July: First Notification of Selection Results
This is the only application round where you are not required to confirm admission.  

Spring semester

International application period Spring semester, starts January 2012 (IKVT11)

• 1st June 2011: Online service opens
• 15 August 2011: Application deadline
• 1st September 2011: Deadline for receipt of supporting academic documents (all applicants) and documentation of fee exempt status (if required)
• 1st September 2011: Deadline for receipt of application fee (if required)
• Last week of October: First Notification of Selection Result
• 7 November: Last date to reply to your offer
Second week in November: Second Notification of Selection Results (no reply required).
