Admission Requirements - Bachelor's programmes at Malmö University

In order for your application to be processed, you must send in the correct documentation to support your application.

Students must have completed upper-secondary education and proof of English proficiency in order to fulfill the general entry requirements for undergraduate studies at Malmö University. Check the programme/course homepage to find if there are any specific requirements.   

Upper Secondary Certificate

Students applying for undergraduate studies must have completed the equivalent of Swedish upper secondary education. We do not accept Result Slips or Statements of Results.

In general, you need to send in copies of both your diploma/certificate as well as an official list of courses and grades (transcript). These copies should be certified. Certifying means that another person must sign their name, print their name and provide their telephone number on each document copy you submit.

For diplomas issued by some coutries, there are country specific requirements.

Authorized translations are necessary if diplomas and transcripts are in a language other than Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, English, French, German or Spanish. Documents must be translated by an authorized translator into English or Swedish.

English Proficiency Requirements

Malmö University requires the equivalent of English course B from Swedish upper-secondary education for admission to undergraduate studies in English. Depending on educational background, students may be required to submit a TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge certificate.

Recognition of Prior Learning- if you do not formally fulfill the eligibility requirements.

To study at Malmö University you must fulfill the requirements and participate in the selection.

For all higher studies on bachelor level (first cycle) in Sweden you must fulfill the general entry requirements. Normally, this is done through upper secondary school documents. If you do not fulfill the requirements formally but still feel that you have acquired the knowledge needed to study a specific course or programme, you can apply for recognition of prior learning.

In an application for recognition of prior learning you must describe in what way you acquired knowledge and proficiency that gives you the ability to pursue higher studies. In the application you describe the circumstances under which you acquired this knowledge. The application should to the extent it is possible be supported by documentation.

The decision to grant or deny applications for Recognitions of Prior Learning is made by the Admissions and Degrees Board at Malmö University. If your application is denied, you can appeal it within 3 weeks after you receive the Notification of Selection results

Passport

If you are exempted from application and tuition fees through your EU/EEA citizenship, you need to include a copy of your passport or national ID card, clearly stating your citizenship. The copy must be certified by another person. She/he has to write her/his:

  • Name
  • Signature
  • Telephone number

 A friend, relative or government official can provide this certification for you.

No Civics A

For many courses and programmes the Admissions requirements states that "Applicants are exempted from the Civics A requirement". This means that you do not need to show the equivalent of Civics A. The text is relevant for applicants with Swedish Upper Secondary certificates only (it can affect their merit rating).

No Letters of Recommendation

No letters of recommendation or motivation is required for the bachelor's courses and programmes. Selection is based on your grade point average.
