Practical Information

There is a lot to think about before becoming an international student. Read through this information carefully to make sure you haven't missed anything!

Applying for a Residence Permit for Studies

The Swedish Migration Board is responsible for issuing residence permits for studies. We strongly advise international students who have been accepted to Malmö University to visit the Swedish Migration Board homepage for information about how to apply for a residence permit for studies. Malmö University cannot offer any assistance in applying for a residence permit.

Go to the Swedish Migration Board Homepage

Non-EU citizens must have a residence permit for studies before entering Sweden. Non-EU citizens can apply for a residence permit for studies as soon as they have recieved a "Letter of Admission" (antagningsbesked) from Malmö University. Be advised that it can take up to three months to receive a residence permit for studies. It is often difficult for non-EU citizens to obtain a residence permit in time to begin undergraduate studies at Malmö University.

EU citizens staying longer than 3 months in Sweden should fill out an application for a residence permit for studies and send it to the Board of Migration, before the first 3 months have passed.

Tuition fees/scholarships

There is no tuition fee to attend Malmö University. However, the Swedish government has proposed the implementation of tuition fees for students from outside the EU/EEA countries and Switzerland from autumn 2011. We will update our website when new information is available.

More information about the proposition.

Malmö University does not offer any scholarships. Visit the Swedish Institute homepage for inforamtion about a number of scholarships for international students to study in Sweden.

In the appleal you must state the decision, what kind of change you wish to obtain in the decision and why the decision should be changed.

You can find information about the procedure in your Letter of Admission.
