Arabiskvår121

Sahar El-Nadi  visits the Shift Lectures at Malmö University on February 6th and discusses the Arab Spring and Egyptian Revolution with senior lecturer Michael Krona at Malmö University.

One year after the fall of Mubarak and with elections held in Egypt we are proud to be able to invite Sahar El-Nadi to Malmö University and the Shift Lectures, exploring the impact of the Arab spring on muslim-west perceptions and relations.

Shift Lecture #121: Continuing the Egyptian Revolution and the Arab Spring

Sahar El-Nadi is an Egyptian independent writer and consultant on creative communication and cross-cultural issues. She participated at the Tahrir square and has written articles and delivered numerous workshops, trainings and lectures to audiences in many countries, including speeches at Harvard, University of Chicago, and Georgetown University. In 2006, with the help of a team of international volunteers, Sahar El-Nadi created and launched ”Don’t Hate, Educate!” a creative cross-cultural communication project, following the Danish cartoons crisis to prove that proper communication can prevent future clashes.

On february 11th 2011 the Arab spring swept away Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak just as it had done with Ben Ali of Tunisia. Further on Libya got rid of Mohammar Gaddafi with support from Nato and UN.
What started with ordinary citizens showing their anger and political will has changed the Arab world. The questions is what directions these changes will take when the next chapter in the story is written – in Syria, now tortured by the violent regime, in Egypt after the elections? Will the young generations of Syria, Egypt, Libya and neighbouring countries use social media to drive changes or has the importance of social media been exaggerated?

Sahar El-Nadi will be talking to Michael Krona, senior lecturer at Malmö University, Faculty of culture and society, who is currently finishing a new book on how traditional media and social media influenced political change, both in the Arab world and back in communist Europe in the 1980’s and 90’s. Lars Mogensen, radio journalist, is moderating the evening. Evelina Mildner Lindén is the producer of the Shift Lectures.
