Hur går studien till,
Projektet inkluderar analys av faktorer som kan kopplas till komplikationer och förlust av implantat. Experimentella försök används för att förklara olika kliniska fynd.

Description in English

The aim of the present investigation is to analyze the reasons for peri-implantitis in animal models and couple these findings to results from retrospective and prospective clinical studies of oral implants. The inflammatory and immune response to titanium and polyethylene, a commonly used clinical material,  will be compared with methods such as quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) for molecular and cellular mediators related gene expression and by histological examinations. In the next step similar implants will be coated with nano-structure impregnated with anti-inflammatory or/and immune suppressive components or with pro-inflammatory agents. Results will be correlated to those from the previous animal study and will hypothetically present a clear view on spatial and temporal roles of immunology and inflammation for the control of osseointegration/FBE.
